Online Food Hygiene for Food Handlers in the retail sector.
This course gives retail staff that handle food the necessary skills in food safety and food hygiene matters, ensuring compliance with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code Standard 3.2.2 Food Safety Practices and General Requirements.
This course is divided into the following four sections each with an online assessment:

The course is 100% online with an assessment at the end of each section and takes about 1.5-2 hrs to complete covering:

  1. Understand the obligation of food handlers under current legislation
  2. Maintain the correct standards of personal hygiene
  3. The correct methods of food handling and storage
  4. Hygiene in relation to typical workplace tasks
  5. Identify potential hygiene risks and how to prevent them
  6. The correct methods for cleaning and sanitation
  7. The importance of pest and waste management
  8. Allergen awareness
  9. Understanding of contamination

How you will be assessed

You will complete an assessment quiz at the end of each section of the course.

Qualification

​This course is non-accredited training. On successful completion of this Food Hygiene unit in Food Safety training you will receive a certificate of completion.

Food Allergen Awareness – Retail Sector

Allergen awareness is vital to all food handlers for public safety. This course provides an overview of allergen management to help avoid the serious consequences of undeclared allergens in food.

The allergen awareness training for the retail sector  takes approximately 1 hour and will cover the following:

  • Statutory requirements
  • Identifying Allergen Hazards in the workplace
  • Labelling and Packaging
  • Preventing Cross Contamination
  • Improving staff allergen knowledge
  • Accurately responding to patron enquiries

How you will be assessed

You will have an assessment quiz at the end of the course presentation.

This is a non-accredited training course.
You will be issued with a certificate of completion.

NSW – FSS- Food Safety Supervisor Online – Retail Sector 

From 1 September 2015 to be certified as an FSS for a food premise in NSW and issued a valid certificate, a person must attain required units of competency from an approved RTO under the FSS program.

The units of competency must incorporate three key focus areas determined by the Food Authority and published on its website:

  1. safe egg handling
  2. allergen management
  3. cleaning and sanitising practices.​

This NSW Food Authority approved online course is the fastest way to get your Food Safety Supervisor certificate.  Star in 2 minutes and come and go as you please. Qualified trainers are available to assist you via phone or email.  Food Safety Supervisor training is mandatory in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and the Australian Capital Territory.  Progressive employers in other states and territories may require a Food Safety Supervisor qualification. ​

SIRRFSA001 – Handle food safely in a retail environment
Upon the successful completion of the course, participants are accepted as qualified Food Safety Supervisors in the retail & hospitality sectors in all states – read below for ACT.

Duration:  4-8 hours including online assessment and interactive simulations plus work based task (minimum of 3 shifts) you will learn: 

  • Personal hygiene
  • Cross contamination
  • Safe food handling
  • Allergen management
  • Food storage & temperature control
  • Cleaning, sanitation & pest control
  • Food Safety Plan, basic monitoring and record keeping
  • Role and responsibilities of a Food Safety Supervisor

How you will be assessed

The online course is delivered in 9 short sections with an assessment quiz after each section. In addition, participants will be required to complete a work based task for Assessment.

Students must be employed in a suitable workplace that has access to specific equipment/ resources to support the assessment process. As part of the course, the employer or workplace supervisor of the student must complete an observation report of the student’s practical skills and sign a declaration that indicates the student is their employee and the workplace has the equipment/ resources required for assessment.

Qualifications

  1. A statement of attainment for the nationally recognised unit of competency SIRRFSA001 – Handle food safely in a retail environment  (Food Safety Supervisor) ​
  2. A NSW Food Authority Food Safety Supervisor certificate – a PDF version will be emailed to you within 2 business days and a hard copy mailed to you within 5-10 days*.

*It is a requirement that the RTO provide your personal details to the NSW Food Authority in order to issue your NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate.
